Day 28 – SIN LEADING TO DEATH

I John 5:16-18: "If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. 18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them."

This is a tough one . . . what is a sin leading to death? Sin NOT LEADING to Death: Often seen as unintentional errors, or failings where a believer repents and seeks God's grace (like the "confess your sins" promise in 1 John 1:9). Sin LEADING to Death: Commonly understood as apostasy (abandoning faith), intentionally rejecting God and Jesus repeatedly, persistent unrepentance, or blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (as taught by Jesus). John writes a lot about sin. Reading all that John writes puts us on a roller coaster, vacillating between assurance and fear about sin and our relationship to it. In Verse 18 John concludes by affirming the security and character of those born of God. Jesus protects us from Satan's control. Hallelujah!!

Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of intercessory prayer. I lift up my brothers and sisters who are struggling. Where there are sins that do not lead to eternal death, I ask for Your grace and mercy to grant them life, repentance, and restoration. Keep my own heart steadfast and pure. Because I am born of God, I know that Your Son protects me, guarding me so that the evil one cannot touch my soul. Lead me away from temptation, and fill me with Your wisdom to stand firm in Your truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
