Day 26 – THREE WITNESSES GIVE TESTIMONY
I John 5:6-12 “This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
John offers three supernatural witnesses of Jesus Christ. The first to give testimony is the Spirit. The Holy Spirit who always points to Jesus and is the One whom brings people to Him. The second to give testimony is the water. The water speaks of Jesus’ Baptism as God proclaimed Jesus to be His Only Son with whom He is well pleased. The third to give testimony is the blood. The blood reminds us of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and His Resurrection where He conquered even death itself!
Heavenly Father, thank You for the profound testimony You have given us concerning Your Son. We believe in Jesus, who came by both water and blood. By the witness of the Holy Spirit, the water, and the blood, we hold fast to the truth that Jesus is the Christ. Lord, because we believe, we have Your testimony within ourselves. Thank You for the ultimate testimony: that You have given us eternal life, and this life is in Your Son. We rest in the promise that whoever has the Son has life, and we praise You for the gift of salvation. In Jesus' name, Amen.
