Day 25 – OVERCOME THE WORLD
I John 5:1-5: “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
John uses the word overcome. He used it twice before in saying we can overcome the evil one if God lives in us, and since we are His children we have overcome the false prophets, the antichrist. This use of overcome is even more grand . . . we can overcome the world. Unfortunately, many Christians do not live in that faith. They live defeated, dejected, depressed and disappointed lives as if the world has overcome them. I understand that… life is not easy. We must stay in this world, but not be of this world. We have the Holy Spirit to guide us in doing that. Through Jesus Christ, We ARE overcoming the world, so live in that victory!
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gift of new life. I believe that Jesus is the Christ, and I rejoice to call You my Father. Give me a deep, genuine love for all Your children, so that my love for You may overflow into how I treat my brothers and sisters in the faith. Soften my heart to walk in obedience to Your commands, and remind me daily that Your ways are not a burden, but a guide to true freedom. Strengthen my faith when the world tries to pull me away. Help me to stand firm, knowing that the victory that overcomes the world is my faith in Jesus, Your Son. In His name, I pray. Amen.
The Lord Bless You and Keep You! Pr Jenny
