Day 13 – CHILDREN OF GOD
“I John 3:1-3: See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure."
All people are made in God's image, but only Christians through Jesus are considered children of God and heirs. To be a child of God means our old sin nature is replaced with a nature that wants to please the Lord. Being children of God means we have access to the “throne of grace” through prayer, any time and from any place. Human beings were created to live as children of God. Sin marred that purpose and broke that relationship with God. Christ restores us to that original relationship as we repent of sin and place our faith in Him. A child of God lives for Him on earth and eagerly awaits a future with Him in heaven.
Heavenly Father, See what incredible love You have lavished upon us! That I, a sinner, should be called a child of God—and so I am! Thank You for this gift of adoption. Lord, I confess that I am often focused on the things of this world. Please help me to live as Your child today, anchored in the truth of Your love. Even though it does not yet appear what I will be, I look forward to that glorious day when Jesus appears. I know that I will be like Him, for I will see Him as He is. Therefore, because I have this sure hope in Him, I pray for the desire to purify myself, just as He is pure. Cleanse my heart, my thoughts, and my actions, that I may reflect Your likeness more each day. I pray this in the name of Jesus, my Savior, Amen.
