Day 9 – LOVE NOT THE WORLD

“I John 2:15-17: "15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever."

Jesus says we cannot serve two masters. Loving the things of the world and loving God are incompatible. Jesus says we are in this world, but not of this world. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life distract us from Jesus. Jesus helps us to overcome the sinful old nature and become new creatures in Christ. What we do for God is eternal!

Heavenly Father, I come before You to align my heart with Your truth. Your Word calls me not to love the world or the things in the world, knowing that such love leaves no room for love for You. Lord, I confess that I am often tempted by the lust of the flesh—seeking comfort, pleasure, and desires independent of Your will. I confess I am tempted by the lust of the eyes—coveting what I see and becoming captivated by material things. I confess I am tempted by the pride of life—boasting in my own achievements and seeking the praise of people rather than Your approval. By Your Holy Spirit, break the power of worldliness in my life. I invite You to remove the desire for temporary pleasures that fade away. I choose to shift my gaze from the things that are passing away and fix my eyes on You. Help me to live in this world without being part of its selfish and sinful systems. Empower me to do Your will, so that I may abide in You forever. I seek Your eternal Kingdom above all else. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
