Day 23 – NO REASON TO FEAR

I John 4:16-18: “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

“Fear God” Ecclesiastes 12:13; “Love God” I Corinthians 8:3…True, we are to fear God, and we are to love God. This is a spiritual paradox. The Old Testament teaches us the law. We fall short and deserve punishment; we can never find salvation on our own. We need Jesus. Jesus fulfills the law. The New Testament focuses on the good news of Jesus Christ who loves us enough to die for us on the cross. The more we live in the love of God, the less we fear judgment.

Heavenly Father, we abide in Your love and we thank You for knowing and believing the love You have for us. As You are, so we are in this world, and we praise You that Your perfect love casts out all fear. Because fear involves torment, and we are not made for fear, we ask that You anchor our hearts deeply in Your grace today. Deliver us from any anxiety or dread, and let Your unconditional love saturate our lives so that we may live boldly, confidently, and free. Amen.
