Day 2 – WORD OF LIFE I John 1:2-3
A “40-DAY” STUDY OF I, II, III JOHN
By Pastor Jenny McCord
“2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.” Building on verse 1, the Word of Life is Jesus, who brings us eternal life. John’s goal is that we will have fellowship with other followers of Jesus. This fellowship is also with God the Father and His Son. We usually think of the word “fellowship” as time at church when we drink coffee and make small talk. The dictionary says fellowship is companionship, friendship, and comradeship. This helps in our understanding, but still falls short of what Christian fellowship could be. Through the Holy Spirit, we can connect with God the Father and His Son in the supernatural realm. When the two disciples walked on the road to Emmaus with Jesus, they finally realized who He was. They said, “Weren’t our hearts burning when He talked to us and explained the Scriptures?” (Luke 24:32). Having our hearts burn within us is an example of fellowship. Our hearts should burn when we talk about Jesus, explore the Bible together, and share with other Christians. When we follow Jesus, we can experience this sincere, profound, and deep connection with others.
Heavenly Father, I praise You for sending Jesus, the Word of Life, who was with You from the beginning and was made manifest to us. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for bringing the light of life into the world, and for the testimony of those who saw, heard, and touched You, so that I might believe. Father, I thank You that the purpose of this message is not just knowledge, but fellowship. I pray that I may walk in deep, abiding fellowship with You and with Your Son, Jesus Christ. May I know the joy of this eternal relationship day by day. I pray also for fellowship with all other believers who are walking in this truth, that our connection with You would bind us together in love. Keep me abiding in the light, as You are in the light, so that my fellowship with You remains unhindered and my joy may be full. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
The Lord Bless You and Keep You, Pr Jenny
