Day 1 – WORD OF LIFE I John 1:1

A “40-DAY” STUDY OF I, II, III JOHN

By Pastor Jenny McCord

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.” John wrote the gospel of John, and he wrote the three letters I John, II John, and III John. Which did John write first? We are not sure, but they begin very similarly. The gospel of John, verse 1 says… "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." In both the gospel and the letters, John is confirming Jesus’ presence at our world’s formation. John reminds us that his knowledge of Jesus is firsthand. Using the word “we” says it was a group encounter. They saw Jesus with their own eyes and heard the words he spoke. John writes his letter to tell others that he knows about the Word of Life, about Jesus. The words Jesus spoke during his time on earth brought forth life to those who followed him then – and to us now. And when we die the Word of Life will bring forth eternal life for us in Heaven. Yes, Jesus is the Word of Life, and His kingdom is for us now and for eternity. The Word of Life guides us in how to live our lives each day, and He guides us into living with Him forever. If we hear Jesus’ words and believe in Him, we will have eternal life (John 5:24).

Heavenly Father, Praise Your name for the Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of life, Who was with You from the beginning. Thank You that this eternal life was not a myth or a fairytale, but a physical reality that was heard, seen, and touched by Your faithful witnesses. Thank You, Jesus, for coming in the flesh, for walking this earth, and for bringing the tangible hope of heaven into our human history. Because You were real, I know that my faith is grounded in truth and that You understand my human struggle. As I look forward to the day when I will see You face to face, help me to walk with a steadfast hope. Let me live with joy today, knowing I am in fellowship with You, the Father, and with all my brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Have a Blessed Day, Pr Jenny
