Day 15 – DESTROYING THE WORK OF THE DEVIL

“I John 3:6-10: 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister."

When we receive Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in our spirits. The soul—comprising our mind, will, and emotions, as well as our body—called the flesh, resist coming under the authority of the Spirit. The devil continues to send temptations our way. It is a lifelong process called sanctification, where the Holy Spirit is changing us from the inside out to be made holy as God is Holy. Through God's grace we can inch forward each day!

Heavenly Father, I come before You in the name of Jesus, thanking You for the incredible gift of being called Your child. Lord, Your Word in 1 John 3:6-10 calls me to a life that reflects Your holiness and righteousness. I pray that I may truly abide in Jesus, dwelling in Him daily, so that I do not make a practice of sinning. Cleanse me from the willful, ongoing sin that would suggest I do not know You. As one born of God, I thank You that Your seed—Your Holy Spirit—remains within me, transforming my desires to match Your own. Father, thank You that Your Son was manifested to destroy the works of the devil. I ask for Your strength to stand against the enemy’s schemes and to refuse to let sin reign in my life. Help me to live a life of active righteousness, just as Jesus is righteous. Grant me the grace to love my brothers and sisters, for I know that this is a mark of Your children. Keep me from being deceived by the world’s standards and help me to walk in the light. Let my life manifest that I belong to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
